GAME LEVEL DESIGN - FALL 2022
Project 1 - Lighting
In our first foray into learning the Unreal Engine, we were tasked with learning how to light our maps and add meaningful "clutter" to our world. I decided to go with a simple living room space, with a viewable kitchen showing and the hallway to the restroom.
Project 2 - Cataclysm
In our second project, we learned what it meant to create a plausible walkable environment - and also learned some programming in Blueprints to move through it ourselves! I seriously wasn't expecting to enjoy making Blueprints at first when looking through the tutorials for it, but as I got further into the project it started to get a lot easier and way more accessible.
Project 3 - Crater
In our final project of the semester, we were tasked with creating a fully playable environment that had both outside and inside visual space, along with non-movement based mechanics. I chose to create a carved-out Moon territory for the player to traverse downwards into, and after taking this course, I feel more confident in my abilities when it comes to level design. While this project did not my expectations at the end with where I wanted it to be, I have taken the lessons learned, failures, and hardships throughout this process to work towards becoming the best I can be at level designing.
